Debunking Some Common Myth for You

Listed some common myths that have different perspectives. All are common, and we are following blindly.

Hey, your Monday mellow is ready. It’s a short read. Some daily life myths were piling up in my head, so I thought, why not write to my digital diary?

Myth 01: You Need to Drink 8 Glasses of Water a Day

Reality: You have to drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day otherwise, your kidney will get damaged. A common childhood fear, most likely. The 8*8 rule from the U.S. Food and Nutrition Board is accurate as the marketing of bottled water companies spreads misinformation.

Hydration depends on your weight, movement, activity level, and climate. What you can do is use your thirst as the indicator. Overhydration can be dangerous, causing hyponatremia. Athletes, pregnant women, and conditions like kidney stones need more hydration than normal.

Myth 02: You Must "Hustle" to be Successful and Well

Reality: There’s no concrete answer to where this began. From the 20th century, Silicon Valley, Gary Vaynerchuk, entrepreneurs, and influencers have vastly promoted this hustling concept. Gary Vaynerchuk once said, “You’re not working hard enough if you have time to sleep 8 hours.”

The definition of success is quite tricky in the sense of which one you would choose if given a choice: money with the inability to feel the peace or a balance between both.  Hard work is absolutely necessary, but not at the cost of ‘YOU’, for sure. The myth is not hustling, but mindset hustling = success. The reality is that you should never trade your health for any achievement. Find the balance between hustling and slowing down if necessary.

Myth 03: Natural Products Are Always Better

Reality: Don’t you get biased when you see “chemical free”, “natural”, or “organic” labels on items? I do. This is a psychological trick of marketing tactics more than a myth. Natural doesn’t mean better. Herbal supplements can cause liver damage, fruit juice has as much sugar as soda, and everything at home can’t be used as a skin care product.

From now on, when you see “natural”, think, “Will it suit my skin and immune system?” Don’t just blindly run for every organic thing.

Myth 04: Microwaving Food Destroys Nutrients

Reality: Radiation of microwaves can be harmful; a common misunderstanding. Scientific studies say otherwise; microwaving preserves nutrients better than traditional cooking. Less heat exposure and shorter time cooking = more preserved nutrition.

Myth 05: Detox Teas Cleanse Your Body

Reality: First of all, why do you think that your liver, kidney, and sweat are not doing their job? Even if there are any medical conditions, don’t fall for marketing gimmicks like detox teas that will cleanse your body. Most detox teas are laxatives that cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. A healthy alternative is to support your kidney and liver, eat fiber, and stay hydrated.

If you have some myths to debunk, then do share them with me. Will be happy to discuss it.

P.S. If this lands in your ‘Updates’ tab, drag me to Primary so we can stay in touch!

Let’s chat another day!
